Form Field Copy

Using Informix On-line 4.00.UE1's forms, how do I, based upon user input, concatenate one field to another? i.e. [f0001 ] [f0002 ] If the user enters "9A" in f0001, I want to add what was originally in f0001 to the end of whatever was originally in f0002. However, if the user enters anything else, I want to leave f0002 alone. What instructions do I need to give in the before and after edit/update?
