Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Question: on IDS 11, when the dbspace listed in DBSPACETEMP runs out of space, what does the engine fall back on — rootdbs or the /tmp filesystem? The docs seemed contradictory. Replies: one poster said rootdbs in his experience; Art Kagel said rootdbs may be used but more likely you'll simply get "no more space" errors. A follow-up asked about requesting an enhancement to spill to /tmp; responses suggested instead enlarging temp space or fixing the queries consuming it, and hinted a better solution might come sooner. No definitive documented answer was given.

Hi everyone. Simple question here. For IDS 11 FC7 (I don't think the version
matters much here but anyway).....if the dbspace which is specified as the
temporary dbspace via the DBSPACETEMP parm runs out of space....what's used
next? The manual seems to imply that the rootdbs is used by at other points it
seems to imply the /tmp directory...could someone clear that up please? Thank
you, Will

rootdbs, in my experience.

Rootdb may be used, but more likely you will just get "No more space"
errors.

This is a problem we probably all experience at some time.
How does one go about getting an enhancement to the coe made for example if
tempdb full up then use file system /tmp
Why not increase your temp space and/or fix the queries that are eating it all
up?

A better enhancement to handle the situation than writing to /tmp may be
closer at hand than waiting for a new feature to be approved. <wink>
