downloaded the informix client sdk 2.9 for x86_64 (the RHEL 3, 64bit
download). However, I can't connect to the database (which is working with the
32bit version on different machine).

[authlive] should read [mydb]
isql does not use ODBC it uses ESQL/C. You have to set up the sqlhosts file to
point to the server.

isql is the tool that comes with unixODBC. Anyway I do have sqlhosts setup as
follows:
$ cat /opt/informix/x86_64/etc/sqlhostsmydb onsoctcp databaseserver sqlexec1
$ tail /etc/servicessqlexec1 1541/tcp
$ env
INFORMIXSQLHOSTS=/opt/informix/x86_64/etc/sqlhosts
INFORMIXSERVER=mydb
INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix/x86_64
PATH=/usr/java/default/bin:/opt/informix/x86_64/bin:/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/java/
default/bin:/opt/informix/x86_64/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin
:/home/grom/bin
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/informix/x86_64/lib:/opt/informix/x86_64/lib/cli:/opt/infor
mix/x86_64/lib/esql
Additionally I can connect using the trail download of the DataDirect drivers, however looking for a solution that works with the informix client SDK driver or a free license solution.
