re: Oracle/Informix Comparison

hrickmount@aol.com recently posted a message about Informix vs. Oracle. We had a similar situation. One of our government clients had to protect his department from being converted to Oracle from Informix. The only real battle for us was price (go figure, the gov. which wastes money trying to save every penny)... anyway, we were able to kill them in price but only after working with it. Oracle is sold by the item, whereas Informix bundles functionality into a common product. Oracle sells you an engine, Oh? you want network connectivity, $$$, you want security, $$$, you want parallel processor support, $$$... When we got through with the deal, we were about half the cost of Oracle, which is about normal... We are an Informix var, drop me an E-mail, we might be able to help you out a bit, maybe at least with the Informix side of the deal. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Informix Premier Var -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Miguel A.
