If the subject line was the real question, the poster might want to look at ex30.4gl, one of the sample programs supplied with the 4GL. This is a great exersize in understanding how to convert data types stored in syscolumns. The posted responses to this syphilitic rambling also point out the 4GL can convert data types on the fly using the LET statement. But I'm not sure this is what was pursued, noticing the foam drippings on the message.
