HPL problem

Hoping you can help....
I am running IDS 7.23 on a SCOUnix platform. I have an onpload job that
unloads the complete contents of a table and sends the contents to a pipe. The
onpload script is launched remotely using Rexec.
My problem lies in that if the front end dies (for whatever reason) the
onpload terminates and writes the correct error to the error log but I cannot
launch another onpload script without rebooting the box.
When I launch a subsequent script it tells me there's a problem initialising
MT shared memory?
Any help is appreciated....
Andy
When onpload terminates have you tried killing the master
onpload (ps
-ef|grep onpload) thread before trying to relaunch?

Hi Andy,
I think the version of the server is quite old.
But I think you can do the following:-
ps -aef | grep pload and kill all the pload processes before restarting=
the
job. It should not require reboot.
Also check in the onstat -g seg/root ipcs if any new segmentsshared mem=
ory
were allocated and not released.
Regards,
Pravin.

Hi,
I neither have the version nor the platform to test this.
But what happens most likely is something like this:
HPL uses it's own shared memory (i.e. shared memory
that is allocated by HPL independently from IDS server's
shared memory). For some reason, something of this
shared memory is leftover after HPL (the onpload processes)
have terminated. You should be able to see this leftover
SHM from HPL using a system command like "ipcs -m",
but do not confuse the IDS server's SHM segments with
those of HPL .
You would then have to remove those left-over HPL SHM
segments (using a command like "ipcrm -m <shmid>").
After that you should be able to start HPL again, without
rebooting the machine.
(It may be a problem of HPL that this SHM is not removed
properly, even though HPL is actively exiting, even writing
an error message to that effect. However, 7.23 is a rather
old version and there's no hope to get this fixed there. So
the above procedure is probably the workaround you have
to adopt for this situation ...)
Regards,
Martin
