Running an 4GL program via and ODBC call
I would like to run a I4gl program from inside excel I know I can use an ODBC connection to insert from an excel spreadsheet to an INFORMIX database And I can use ODBC to select from database back to excel . For years I have been using an add in to excel called ExcelSQL It can run a different query in each cell of a spreadsheet. What I want to do is 1: load info from cells in a excel spreadsheet into an informix table . 2: call a 4gl program (on same machine as database) that reads a value passed in with it's call to know what record to read from the table Then that 4gl program would manipulate the input data and write the result into another table 3: Then I want the Excel spreadsheet to read the answer (now stored in the informix tabe) and place it in cells in the spreadsheet. I know I can do step 1 and 2 but need to understand if I can do step 2 by using a stored procedure or some some other feature of INFORMIX that could do this better Or is there a better way to allow excel to kick off a process on an Linux server running informix Thanks
I think you could use a SYSTEM call, inside your procedure.
