Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Ajay Sewpaul asked for a good Informix Dynamic Server DBA book. Axel Weitermann recommended Carlton Doe's book for Windows NT, admin only. Vic Glass suggested browsing bookstores, Jonathan Leffler named Joe Lumbley's, and Adam Bradley recommended Informix Unleashed (SAMS). Paul Watson said he had been told it was out of print and asked if it was back. No answer to that.

Hello
Could anyone recommend a good Informix Online Dynamic Server book. I did a
search in Amazon.com but I could not decide on which one to choose.
Thanks in advance.
Ajay

For NT Carlton Doe's "Administering Informix Dynamic Server on Windows NT"
is quite good (it's the only one for NT).
He focusses on administration, configuration, backup and setup only. There's
nothing about programming and 4GL/SQL or something like this. A Backup-CBT
is included as well as a licensed 7.30.TC6 and some Unix-Scripts (????) but
no online book :-(((.
For Unix there is much more available (spending half the book describing VI,
I think) covering everything.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but I recommend that you take a trip to your
local Borders or Barnes & Noble bookstore and see which one you like. The
caveat is that you'll find plenty of Oracle references, a lot for Sybase, but
often very little for Informix.

Hi Ajay,
I recommend "Informix Unleashed" (published by SAMS - ISBN 0-672-30650-6).
This book explains the concepts really well - it not only covers IDS but
also Online, SE and Universal Server.
It is a big book (over 1000 pages) and includes detailed info not only on
Informix Admin but also SQL, Application Development and Data Modelling -
it also comes with a CD-ROM that contains heaps of tools, utilities and
scripts.
Regards - Adam
