error -32508

I hope that someone from informix is reading this. I have a very peculiar error that I just cannot understand. I am using Informix 7.24 both SQL and 4GL. I created a couple of shared libraries that help me to utilize more commonly used functions without having to re-program in every system. I compiled the library using c4gl -O -c and then ld -G -o <filename>.so In this library there is a function called Set_role() which accepts a character string as an argument. This string is then assembled, using the prepare statement, to form set role dtn_cmp (just as an example). This worked fine when we were using Informix 6.0 without transaction logging. Since the new Informix 7.24 I have been having a problem of changing the role within a transaction and update cursor statement. It generates a -32508 (Statement is invalid within a transaction). However I created a test file using starting a transaction, creating and update cursor, setting a valid role, opening the cursor, fetching a row, changing to different roles, then updating and ending the transaction. This worked in the test but in the live system, it keeps generating that error. Any suggestions?
