Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
The poster couldn't get an RSS secondary (IDS 11.5UC4) to sync: onstat -g rss showed the server as 'defined' with next log to send (0,0), and logs never flowed. Art Kagel gave the standard build steps: level-0 archive on the primary (ontape -s -L 0), physical restore on the secondary (ontape -p, don't bring it online, restore logical logs if needed), then onmode -d RSS <primary> on the secondary and onmode -d add RSS <secondary> on the primary. The real cause turned out to be a wrong HA_ALIAS setting; after correcting it, RSS worked. A follow-up question about the RSS later disconnecting ('not acknowledging log transmission') over a slow network got no reply in the thread.

Hi,
I am configuring RSS replication using IDS 11.5UC4WE.
On primary it is showing as ONLINE &
"onstat -g rss" is showing
RSS Srv name = db02
RSS Srv Status = defined
Connection Status = defined
but Next log to send as (0,0).
In RSS it is showing as Read-Only (RSS) but logical log is not syncing.
Please provide the steps to create RSS replication.
Regards,
SB
Steps:
1. Perform a full archive on the primary ( ontape -s -L 0 )
2. Perform a physical restore on the secondary ( ontape -p ) - DO NOT
BRING THE SECONDARY ONLINE
1. Assuming that the logical log that was current when the primary was
archived is still online on the primary you do not have to restore any
logical logs at this point, but if that log is no longer online on the
primary you will have to restore logical logs to the secondary
using ontape
-l until you have restored all of the logs that are no longer
available on
the primary
3. On the secondary establish the primary: onmode -d RSS <primary
server name>
4. On the primary register the RSS secondary: onmode -d add RSS
<secondary server name> <optional password>

Can you post the relevant bits of your onconfig and what commands you
used to create the RSS node?

I will now proceed to pleasure myself with this fish.
Hi,
The steps mentioned in the previous post have been followed. The issue was
with the wrong HA_ALIAS configuration. That was rectified and RSS is up &
running.

Hi,
Again a little help is required.
In primary in the online log I have received
00:37:42 RSS db02_rss log replay position is falling too far behind RSS Source
00:38:12 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
09:26:16 RSS ids_emcom is not acknowledging log transmission
09:26:17 Error receiving a buffer from RSS - shutting down
09:26:17 RSS resumed acknowledging log transmission
09:26:17 RSS Server db02_rss - state is now disconnected
and in the primary, the log sending is stopped.
Please guide how to resume that. Able to ping both the servers from each other.
The primary waits for 32 ack from RSS before stopping, can we modify that?
Please also suggest what tuning is required if the network connectivity is
slow.

SB
