Or is |> there a way? If I understand you correctly, the problem is that the value isn't stored in the variable until the user exits from the field, and that hasn't happened yet in your case. Version 4.1 provides a way to do this (the get_fldbuf() function), but it's described in the section on enhancements, so it doesn't look like there's any way to do it in older versions. So I think you're out of luck, unless upgrading is an option for you. But maybe one of the real gurus can suggest an undocumented way to do it; any ideas? -- Harry Bochner bochner@das.harvard.edu
