Working with ascii window display

Greetings, I have a 4gl program in which I am trying to display two separate windows at the same time. The problem is I can only see one of them whereas I would like to be able to see them both. There is an option to have all *foreground* information displayed invisibly however I can find no similiar option for *background* color. I assume this would help because to open up a second window I revert to the "SCREEN" which immediately covers over what I just opened; and it seems to me if I could get it invisible, well, I'd be able to see through it. Is this a lot easier than I'm finding it or am I trying to do the impossible? Any comments or suggestions are well appreciated!
