Binary(250) Primary Key

I'm new to Informix and am having trouble with a table definition. The key field for the table is a variable length binary field with a maximum length of 250. The Informix documentation says I can't use "BYTE" as the data type for the primary key. So what can I use? In DB2 I define it: VARCHAR(250) FOR BIT DATA In Oracle I define it: RAW(250) In Syabase I define it: VARBINARY(250) Thanks, Jim Blye
