RE: ONBAR tape setup
Posted in 2005
You can do this. Assuming you are using ALARMPROGRAM to backup your logs
you need to need to stop this from backing up when the archive tape is in
the drive (a file existing on disk and removed when the next log tape is put
back in). It is a bit messy and you need to ensure you have sufficient logs
while the backup is disabled. What do you do if your system fails while
your logs are not being backed up and your archive is not complete?
Using ontape and 2 tape drives we do the archive then add the unix backup to
the end of the tape. The second tape is free for continuous log backup.
Wouldn't it be far easier to purchase more disk and continue the log backup
to disk?
