These symptoms would be consistent with your (accidentally) running the Btrieve client engine (not just the requester) on the OS/2 machine. The client engines try to open the file in a sharing mode, but the NLM server Btrieve opens files in Deny Write mode. To test if this is the case, unload Btrieve.nlm then try opening the file from your OS/2 machine -- if the file is opened successfully, then OS/2 machine is using the client engine.
