Take the Informix class on "Upgrading to Informix-ODS". It makes the upgrade pretty easy, and they have a really neat way to do it if you are staying on the same machine. (No unloads, exports, etc.) If you can't do that then write back and we'll give you the short course, but you're still gonna learn it all yourself. While you only have a problem if the table uses the "fragmentation" option, the Gospel is "Informix strongly recommends that applications using rowid be changed to use primary keys instead." (Which is what you'd be doing by creating your own column.)
