Accessing 2.1 CDROM database with 7.1

The 7.1 SE database engine wants to update indices and add new system tables when you try to access older databases. I have CDROM archives of 2.1 databases that I'd like to access with the 7.1 engine. Is there any way to do this without copying the database to a hard drive so that the engine can do its update?
