blob and clob data load

Hi All, I've looking for information about how to load data into blob and clob data types directly from SQL language. I've found that ids 9.4 has defined external functions like this: filetoclob filetoblob, etc... Is there any documentation to review this external functions? Is There other way to accomplish this? Thanks
