Re: WGS 7.20 *Really* slow

66MHz Pentium processors are realy slow nowadays. Beeing a Compaq 4000 may be it should be 166 MHz or 266 MHz? IDS seems to need quite a lot of cpu power to run well. It may be hard to get it to run real fast if the processors are actually 66MHz. Still with proper tuning it should work. We run WGS on different machines with SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 with very good results. These machines are 300 MHz Pentium's or better, but all are single CPU. A long time ago we upgraded from SE 5.x to OnLine 7.10 on a 100MHz single CPU machine. Initially several things actually ran faster in SE than OnLine. However with multiple users doing slightly complex queries OnLine where much better, to a large extent due to the much better optimizer. For optimization advice just go to http://www.dejanews.com and search for posts made by Art S. Kagel or David Williams and you will find a lot of very excelent advice.
