It might be worth it to consider moving to a more recent > version. Yes prior to 7.12 the engine converted each row's datetime column to a string and did the comparison as a string compare. Version 7.12 fixed this to convert the literal string to a datetime and compare directly. the workaround in ESQL/4GL was to convert the date string to a DATETIME in the program and use that datetime host variable in the where clause.
