Stafford: Don't reinvent the wheel. Check out the Power-4gl toolkit where you can easily produce vertical menues (accessible by arrow keys or directly with numbers (1 thru 9, a, b, c ...). A typical menu with Power-4gl would be created in a 4gl program as follows: call menuopen("Menu Title","","") ... -- Define menu. call menuline("First menu item","f") call menuline("Second menu item","f") call menuline("Third menu item","f") call menusetup() -- Display the menu. while true case menuman() -- Manage user response when 0 exit while when 1 call first_prog() when 2 call second_prog() when 3 call third_prog() end case end while call menuclose() -- Close menu window. Large menu systems can be accomplished by submenus which are positioned by default in a cascading manner so that menu trails are easily visible. Features such as printscreen, help window, home/end, disabling menu items, etc. are built in. Other Power-4gl tools include powerful pick-lists (pop windows), onscreen scrollable reports and numerous general purpose functions. A free "light" version is available with source code and can be downloaded without restrictions on use. See: http://www.rl.is/~john/pow4gl.html.
