4gltags breaks on our Suns

Has anyone gotten the 4gltags script that recently came across the Net to work? We're running SunOS 4.1 here, and our awk seems to break on the "sub" statements. They look OK to me based on my store-bought awk book by A, K & W. The only awk doc's I could find in our Sun manuals consists of about 6 pages and a pointer to the original awk paper :-(. I guess it still could be syntax, or it may be that we just have an old awk. The SCCS stuff in the awk executable says it's vintage 1988/1989. If you had to change 4gltags to make it work, I'd appreciate hearing from you. Otherwise, I'll just assume our awk doesn't do "sub", and take it from there.
