Question regarding moving a database
Posted in 1997
A software package I support uses Informix Online as it DBMS engine. We
often need to bring back customer databases to the lab to recreate and
debug problems.
Our software as it is currently written prohibits the use of dbexport
and import as a way to move the database because certain type of data
are lost. We have been using ontape to backup and restore the customer
databases, but this is a bit of a pain the destination machine must
have >= the size of the raw partition and we do not alwys have the
original onconfig file or partition sizes.
I was wondering if there is another way to do this? Will
onunload/onload work here?
Another wrinkle is that sometimes customers have had new chunks added
since their original database partitions were getting full. They later
get a new faster machine and want to move their database and consolidate
their chunks back into the original arrangement. Can this be easily
done?
Yours truly, yet another Informix neophyte......
