Re: Informix 4.0 --> 6.0 SE

You don't say what your programs are written in. We started long ago with version 1 and 2 of SE/4GL These where updated to 4.1, 5.0, 5.0x of SE and several releases of 4GL ver. 4.XX. Lately we upgraded to OnLine 7.10 and 4GL 6.0 but retaining several customers on the SE 5.0x/4GL 4.XX releases. We have essentially been able to simply install the new db, recompile our 4GL programs and continue working. 4GL version 4.0 was impossible, but we avoided that. In version 6.00 and 6.01 of 4GL we have also found some bugs, but have been able, with good help from Informix support, to find a release that worked without too much trouble. These bugs are supposed to be fixed now. I have a release (6.01.UD3) that we haven't installed yet that shall fix both the problems with current and assignment to character variables using subscribts (let x[4,8] = var1, var2)). According to info on Informix Link there is supposed to be a version 6.01.UD4 out also, why we didn't get that and what it fixes I have no clue. 4GL ver. 6.02 is also on its way (pending port on SCO 5.0), that might of course introduce new bugs. For us the 4GL bugs has been the major problems, but allways solved by either a new version (perhaps after a short wait) or going back to an earlier one. Remember that earlier releases might be better! By the way, 7.10 is the last release of SE on SCO 5.0. I don't know of any bugs in SE after the 5.xx releases, but you do need to set up the new connectivity files (sqlhosts++). This is relatively easy though (although there should have been tools to do it). This might be one of the occasionals for you. Good luck.
