The Sugar Community Edition developers' guide says: "Sugar uses the mysql PHP extension for MySQL support (or mysqli if it enabled), the mssql extension for Microsoft SQL Server support, and the oci8 extension for Oracle support. Sugar does not support generic ODBC access or other database drivers such as PDO." There is also no discussion in the developers' guide about how to implement other/new database interfaces.
