Re: [Q] how to drop all the databases and instance?

As Neil suggests, you'd be better off using tbtape to backup and
restore.
Just a couple of things to add:
- I assume you're keeping your version of OnLine. If you're changing
it then neither tbtape nor tbunload can be assumed to work - you'll
have to use dbexport / dbimport, which of course requires you to have
plenty of filesystem space.
- If you use tbtape the chunk device names on the target for the
restore need to be identical to those the on the backed up system. The
usual way to accomplish this is by way of symbolic links. Don't forget
to make them owned by informix / informix and 660 (not root/ other and
777 like one site I saw recently! :-O ).
- How thoroughly do you want to get rid of the old data? If you just
want to make it inaccessible to OnLine then tbinit -iy will zap it. If
you need to shred the contents then you'll need to copy something over
the chunks - build filesystems on them, dd stuff to them, or
something. Extremely unlikely to be necessary though.
