Reading Data from Archive Tapes

Does anyone know how to read specific data from an INFORMIX archive tape? What I am looking for is the ability to read the date, time and level of the archive on a particular tape. I administer over 1,000 remote sites and need a way to verify that the tape loaded for a restore is the tape needed as compared to the tbmonitor/status/archives output.
