We are planning to upgrade the hardware and the operating system of our Informix Database server . The version of Informix used is IDS 9.30FC2 Current Environment Operating system : SunOS 5.8 Machine : Sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-Enterprise Future Environment Informix 9.30 FC2 Operating System : Sun Solaris 9 Machine : sun Fire Server E20K Are there any known problems to be aware of before proceeding with the upgrade. I checked the IBM site and the spreadsheet does inform that IDS 9.30FC2 is supported on Sun Solaris 9. Thanks, Jiten

If you are using external storage then move the storage, create the links and just start the engine Cheers Paul Paul Watson Oninit Ltd Tel : +44 1414161772 Cell : +44 7818 003457 Web : www.oninit.com

I'll second Paul's take. This is a trivial upgrade. Just install IDS, copy over the ONCONFIG file, create the chunks on the new arrays, and restore. If you can attach the original arrays as well you MIGHT complete the copy a bit faster using dd to copy the raw device files from one array to the other. You just have to weigh the hassle of doing so against your window for the port. I'd recommend looking toward an upgrade to 10.00 as soon as you are stable on the new hardware. IDS 9.30 was good, 9.40 was better, and 10.00 is better yet. Art S. Kagel
