If you want to have Informix use the space, you can build a chunk in the new part of the lvol by using the same lvol name, but with an offset that causes the new chunk to skip all of the old data in the first chunk. If you're uncomfortable with this, I'd just forget the extra space exists. Moral, when you're gone, leave someone in charge who knows what s/he's doing.
