I just downloaded the new VisualCafe from Symantec. This is "on first impression" a very cool product to make Java products with. What's the difference from the others? They've apparently spent more time with connecting-the-object-to-an-event, which in the past has been the thingy you have to go and code: put the button on the form, then go write button-event code. Now they have a wizard for it, which for the lazy man in me is quite nice. This product is not nirvana, but may be something you should evaluate. Compared to the Cafe product, this one is much better. Haven't run it through all the paces, but this is, on first impression, very nice. Don't know how it'll hold up against the real world, but if I was going to look around at GUI products, this one is worth checking into. Java and Javascript are not going away... The advandtage to using Java, if you can get a decent app-builder, is the portability. Having seen NewEra, it's a nice product, but maybe a slant towards portability is something to consider. The eval is priced right to, at www.symantec.com. ( Microsloth has their J++ which isn't too bad for making animated GIFs, but contains the usual overly-complicated-what-does-this-mean interface with drill-down menus) :-) -- \\\\|// (6 6) -----------oOOo---( )---o00o------------------------------- Tim Schaefer Motorola: tschaefe@paging.mot.com Worldwide: tschaefe@shadow.net Homepage: http://www.shadow.net/~tschaefe Liberty: www.lp.org www.cato.org -----------------------------------------------------------
