For Informix databases, the host must be configured properly to respond to the client. I believe I-Star is the host component. (I may be wrong as I've never configured a host, just the clients. I do know that the host has to be configured.) The client then has to have two components, a TCP/IP stack to communicate with the Unix host and I-NET. I-NET must be purchased for each actual PC. I believe it's about $100-$150 per workstation. The PB native driver then talks to I-NET which actually communicates with the database. : 1) Is this correct? : 2) Is PC-NET the client software? : 3) Anyone have a guestimate as to the cost of a site license of I-NET? As far as I know, they don't have one. You pay per workstation. The host component (I-STAR?) is included in some releases of the database, I believe. It may need to be purchased separately for 5.0, though. : 4) Info. about the distribution of PC-NET? Royalty free (don't laugh)? See above. I-NET is purchased per physical workstation. : 5) Does Online ver 7.xx include I-NET automatically? If so, what about the : client side? I believe that 7.xx does include the server component. Purchase the client side separately. Those are the components you need to access the database regardless of the tool you use, Powerbuilder or Informix proprietary tools. Personally, I'm not real fond of the way Informix works as a client/server database. For instance, I-NET can only connect to one database at a time, which *can* be a pain. I've never used 7.xx, so it may be better than earlier versions. HTH, Scott -- ------Scott Morizot-----------tmorizot@infinity.ccsi.com------
