Re: passing database through ARG_VAL?

Daniel It can be done. Here is how. Let us assume your script calls the 4GL program with the database name as its first argument. You would capture the database name within your program like so: LET cDbname = ARG_VAL(1) DATABASE cDbname You must of course take care that all your variables are declared as base data types, not as LIKE a table.column or table.*. Author: dfarr@goldwp.golden.csc.com (Daniel Farr) at internet Date: 12/08/1998 4:34 PM I'm brand new to i4gl and the newsgroup. I work in a data-conversion shop and the utilities I am trying to build with i4gl need to have the DATABASE variable passed to them through ARG_VAL. (i.e., there are many databases to choose from, and input was in a previous shell script). So far, I have had very limited success. First, I tried setting DATABASE to 'sysmaster' and changing the variable after i4gl initialization steps. Does anyone have insight or suggestions as far as how to do this? (remember, I'm new to this...) Thanks a million. Dan Farr, dfarr@goldwp.golden.csc.com
