DSN system with Informix driver have a problem
Posted in 2010
Roberto runs several Access 2003 apps on a Windows 2003 server that pull data from Informix via a system DSN ("v240") configured with user KCLBOB. One app, on that machine only, stops at startup and pops up the DSN configuration dialog with the username reset to "Admin"; entering the correct username lets it finish. Reinstalling the Informix ODBC driver didn't help. Art Kagel said the issue lies in Windows/Access, not the Informix client. Joerg Volz suggested checking each linked table (one may store different credentials) and trying an Access database repair. No confirmed fix is recorded.

Hello at all, I have a windows system (2003 server sp2) with installed informix odbc driver and I have configured a DSN system named "v240" with a specific username (KCLBOB) and relative password and it connect with a informix database on a Sun system and works well. In this windows system I launch (with task scheduler), 5 small "Access2003" applications. In this windows system I have already a "RunTimeAccess2002". These applications have to perform some query to update other Access2003 databases and these applications use the system DSN "v240" to get data from some tables in the Informix database on the Sun system. There is a only one "Access2003" application that when it run, it immediately stop and it show the configuration panel of DSN "V240". In this panel the user name is changed and now it show "Admin". If I change the username from Admin to KCLBOB (the correct username) it run well and it terminate with no error. If I run this access2003 application from another windows machine this behavior there is not. It acts so alone on this system. Why happens this? Seems as if the user name be changed and replaced with the default name Admin... I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the odbc driver informix. Sorry for bad english but I hope I have made you understand the problem Thanks Roberto
Your English is fine, Roberto. I think that the problem is either in the application itself or in Windows. I can't see how it can be something in the Informix Client/ODBC software as all that's providing to WIndows is the driver level used by the DSN. It's the Windows DSN that your application is interacting with. Art Art S. I also think that the problem is in Windows (not in the application), because the same application access2003 runs fine on other Windows systems. You have any suggestion about how to debug this problem. You will admit that it's strange that at run time it shown the panel of the DSN system and that the username has been changed (but not all the other parameters including the password...). I think that the application access can do this change. It is also strange that other applications access2003 work properly with the same DSN on this windows system...You've never heard of such a thing? Thanks a lot for your interesting CUT
I'm not a windows expert, so I can't help there. It's funny that the same app works OK on another system and other apps work OK on this one. Normally I follow the rule of difference. Look to what's different between what works and what doesn't. In this case you seem to have eliminated all of the differences. Art Art S. Hy Roberto, open the Access DB and try to open the linked tables one by one to check if they work. I guess that one/some are connected via v240 with a different Username/Password, that doesn´t work anymore. Sometimes a DB repair of the access stuff helps, please don´t ask me why, that is M$ thinking :-) It´s just my experience with Access regards Joerg Volz ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----Original Message----- From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of BOB Sent: Wednesday, January 06, 2010 5:16 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: DSN system with Informix driver have a problem > Your English is fine, Roberto.
