hi help i'am getting tired of unix vi . how can i use a windows editor (example ultredit) and called from unix. so when i start (use editor) in unix(sql rds) the windows editor starts and has the file from unix. thanks
Try samba. Mount a unix directory on windoze. But then you cannot start auto. Alternatively, try "ee" on unix (FreeBSD has it). It is a wordstar clone, I think. In article <01bebd61$9daa1780$0f8f0180@pc264074>, dimitri.verhoog@kramers.nl says... > hi > > help i'am getting tired of unix vi . > how can i use a windows editor (example ultredit) and called from unix. > so when i start (use editor) in unix(sql rds) the windows editor starts > and > has the file from unix. > > thanks > I use rexec (if I have NFS or Samba access to the UNIX drive) with WTK server from D4GL acting as rexecd Or, rexec/rcp if not (rcp copy the file to PC, rexec lunches the app with the file) but getting the changed file back is a different issue. Since I use GWD editor, which runs ANSI C as its 'scripting' language, I wrote the script to embed the original location into the file as the comment, and on "save", extract that info and use rcp again to return the file to UNIX. "open" can be initiated from the telnet session. "Save" is initiated in editor. Since GWD have FTP functionality built in, you can use that too. Also, I have several scripts for GWD to take out the file remotely from version control SW, compile and/or make program remotely, launch debugger or compiled program, and finally return the file to the version control, all initiated from GWD. Needles to mention, there is a 4gl syntax highliter and a bunch of 4gl related functionality for GWD too. http://www.gwdsoft.com/ Andrej Falout
