And now for something completely different....

Hey sports fans! In my recent dumpster diving extravaganza, I came accross this *Top* Sekret memo from the higher ups at Informix. It appears that Informix had done the port to Linux *Months* ago! Only they didn't want to release it because they were unsure of the Linux market place. The memo says that they did this out of fear that Oracle was working on a Linux port and they didn't want Oracle to beat them to market. So they have their's ready just in case. Well, since I still had a few hours of darkness left, and the security guard was still asleep in his car, I hiked over to Oracle's Campus! (Wow! what a lot of dumpsters.) Unlike Informix, most of these guys have paper shredders. ;-) But I found a few that didn't. After about 4 hours of searching, I came across a coffee stained memo from a certain excutive VP incharge of Intel products. It was to Larry, and he was wondering how to respond to my inqueries about a Linux port. The gist of it was that Oracle too had done a port, and were unsure of the Linux marketplace. But not wanting to be beaten to Market, their plan was to be ready to ship their port, the day the competition (Informix, Sybase) announced theirs. (Sort of like beating them to the punch.) [We ship on the day you pre-announce your port!] Well since it was getting light out, I didn't want to head up to Emoryville, so I don't know the status Sybase's port. :-( The bottom line? It looks like we'll never see a port unless one or the other side flinches! -Mikey BTW, If you believe this, check out the date of the post! I'm sorry but I had to do it.
