Checking if Records are locked in ESQL programs.

I have written a piece of code using ESQL in C. The program deletes the records based on the WHERE clause. Till a few days back the program used to work very fine, but now it has started behaving erratically, i.e at times it deletes and sometimes it does not. The program is quite simple and my only doubt now is if the records are locked by some other user(process), at the time when my code wants to delete the records and hence it might be failing. Is there any way, some flags in any structure, which I can check to find out if the records are really locked or not. If anyone has faced a similar situation then I would appreciate any solution to it. In case if you feel there might be some other reason besides the locking which I am not aware of at present, then that problem and its solution would also be welcome. Thanks in advance.
