I don't know about 'free' ODBC drivers, but I'm currently testing SCO SQL-Retriever on a 'free' 30 day trial. There is a ~14MB download from SCO's web site, or if you get in touch with an SCO rep they can send you a CD. So far I have found it OK for queries that return a limited volume of data, but it does seem to get disproportionately slower once the rows start to run into thousands. I think I've returned more than 3000 rows but I would need to check to be sure (not a work just now).
