I cannot begin to describe how incredibly amazed I am in Informix development that their latest and greatest database IUS still does not have some of the basic text functions that every language and database out their already has. I'm planning on building a library of the functions found in Illustra and Oracle for use with IUS. I want to do them in C for speed. It frightens me to see an upper function written in SPL with 26 nested if/then/else statements in a for next loop. That has got to be a serious drag on performance. If anyone has any suggestions or additions to my library please let me know. I plan to start with: upper( ) lower( ) initcap( ) substring( ) ascii( ) -- character to ascii value char( ) -- integer to character replace( ) Thanks Please email me. I rarely get time to read the news, but I think I may end up reading this one more often. -- John B. Windberg Database Administrator Imagine Publishing Inc. jonwa@imagine-inc.com
