We are currently using ontape, and are planning to convert to ON-BAR.
I am doing to RTFM work right now, but was wondering if there was
anything else that any of you could add to make my experience less
painful.
We were going to use the ISM that comes for AIX, since we are using
the single tape drive. We are looking to install another tape drive
soon.
We are working on our development box, which is very similar to our
production machine IBM F50.
AIX 4.3.3
IDS 7.31.UC5
Chris,
one thing to check first is your BAR_XFER_BUF_SIZE in your onconfig
file. I see you're running IDS on AIX which means your page size is 4K
as opposed to 2K like other unix platforms (i.e. SCO, Solaris, etc.).
The default setting in the onconfig file is 31 which is incorrect for 4K
page size operating systems. You have to change it to 15.
Another thing is to always make sure you have enough space for your
bar_act.log file. Furthermore, while getting this thing up and running,
you might wanna get the bar_dbug.log file to start logging for error
reporting. Once again you have to make sure there's enough space or your
instance will hang. The setting on the BAR_DEBUG_LOG parameter can range
from not very verbose to very verbose and can quickly fill up your
filesystem!
Other than that, I don't use ISM so I can't help you out much there.
Best of luck.
