I'm not sure exactly what you're after. IDS per se (7.30), does not allow you to embed even C code into the engine. On the other hand, you can certainly access the engine from C programs via ESQL/C or ODBC. IDS/UDO 9.1x supports C functions which are built or loaded into the server, and the Centaur (9.2) version should support Java in the server as well; I'm not sure about C++ in the server itself. No, there isn't yet a planned or actual version which has an embedded Perl interpreter in the server. You can use DBD::Informix to write Perl + SQL scripts that can access the server, which could be SE, OnLine, IDS, IDS/UDO or IDS/ADSO/XPO. You could consider using the SPL SYSTEM statement to run those scripts from the database engine, but that isn't really what you're after, I think.
