replacing ACE and PERFORM (a newbie question)

What replaces ACE and PERFORM when using Informix-SE ? I have used a much older I-SQL (on a UNIX box at work) which has ACE and PERFORM. I was happy to find the SE package (with ESQL-C) for Linux because I could then learn more about Informix in my spare time (masochist ?). Can I assume that the "modern" way to create forms and reports is from Windows using C or VB ? I quite like the old character-based interface. ISQL was 'unbundled' from the engine in V4.10 or so and the engine now
comes with the dbaccess utility for data management. You have to
purchase ISQL, which still comes with ACE and PERFORM, separately.
Todate Informix has not announced any plans to port ISQL to Linux but
the Linux Advocacy committee is still needling them over this one. We
shall see.
