Steve...I tried to email this, but it comes back user unknown...apologies to the whole list... re: your question on if 5.0(4.1?)SQL execs using the password shell command rather than /bin/sh as 2.1 did... ----- Forwarded message # 1: To: steve@chineham.euro.csg.mot.com Subject: /bin/sh vs. pw_shell I don't know what Informix does, we are still at 2.1 and I am very interested in answers to your informix list query...but... We also use a shell script to generate menus (Unisys machines provide this tools) and we still use /bin/sh in the password file. We got around this by putting a case statement in /etc/profile that checks for that users name in a file. If it finds it, it runs the shell script to generate the appropriate menu; if it doesnt find his name in the file, it puts him to the shell as the password file asked. Its a bit tedious, but if you get stuck, you could try that as a workaround, because it would then have /bin/sh in the password file for all users, even menu'd ones. Here is our chunck of profile which does the checking: menuchk () { if grep "^$LOGNAME:" /menus/menudev/lists/menu.names > /dev/null then exec /menus/sabin/newms fi } menu.names looks like: anbarnes: joeblow: etc... newms is a shell script which sets vars and then execs a compiled menu shell with top level menus different for each category of user, his "need to know".
