Hi !
I guess this gives you the solution if I have correctly interpreted
your question.
1) Write an ESQL/C program which will take the UNIX file, read it
and do what ever with the data . If you want you give the
command line arguments which you can pass from the procedure to
the C program. Follow this if you want to read from an UNIX
file. Run the C program from the procedure with SYSTEM comand.
We have worked with this where because of some limitations
of procedure we could not do it directly .
2) If you want to capture the out put of a UNIX command let the
ESQL/C program put the out put in a file and do the apprpriate
action. But if you just want to trap the return value of the
UNIX command raise and exception and depending on the return
value perform the action.
Enjoy life !
