Re: Searches get slow after a while. Any fixes or workarounds?

Take a long, hard, ruthless look at your code for starters. Use all the available tools to find out what's actually going on. (eg. SET EXPLAIN, Interactive Debugger, custom-written timers) Any unexpected behaviour of the machine, o/s or DBMS are likely to be a reaction to, not a cause of, the problem. Scrutinise and really understand your code BEFORE any excursions into tbstat, sar or whatever. If you're not sure what you're looking for in the code / index / d/b design, hire a very experienced consultant. After - and only after - you've done the application code and index/db design to death, I personally find tbstat -F the most useful gauge of performance. (After the inevitable look at tbstat -p and tbstat -R). See the OnLine manual for what the different write types mean. akent@cix.compulink.co.uk (Andy Kent) ------------------------------------- 44 272 742815
