Problem Determination Mastery tutorials - here's the scoop...

Yes - we pulled them for content review. We don't plan on keeping them
withheld, but want to review them for both content and for quality.
An explanation about the oncheck -me. This functionality was put in as a
downed systems support backdoor for a problem that might be encountered
during the migration from 7.x to 9.x. The workaround to the problem would
be to drop and rebuild indexes. This is a very rare problem and as far as I
know has only been encountered by one customer.
Oncheck -me has never been in 9.x since the problem only occurred during the
migration from 7.x to 9.x. The requirement was to compact the extents prior
to the migration. It was intended that oncheck -me be run only by downed
systems. Most of tech support and the R&D engineers know nothing of this
functionality since it was used only by the downed systems engineers.
We considered implementing oncheck -me when working on bigchunk for 9.4
because we were increasing the size of the page address. We were concerned
that the extent list increase would cause a problem during migration. We
chose instead to convert the disk copy of the extent list from
chunk+chunk_relative_address, extent size to dbspace_relative_address,
extent size. This solution eliminated the migration problem and allowed a
more seamless migration.
As far as the tutorials go - we also are a bit concerned that some of the
information contained is a bit dated. We've worked quite a bit to eliminate
some of the issues that were discussed in them, yet the documents did not
reflect which versions had problems and which did not. We hope to be able
to get the reviews done shortly, get the corrections and edits done, and
have them available on the web site as quickly as possible.
If you downloaded the tutorials, understand that the only thing that we
support is that which is in the release documentation. Also, we will urge
you to use the re-edited documentation when it is available as it should
contain more accurate and hopefully more valuable information.
