Re: Announcing: The IBM Customer Advisory Council for Informix
Posted in 2006
Not a technical thread at all. It's a flame war spun off from the announcement of IBM's Customer Advisory Council for Informix, centred on whether IBM is actually marketing Informix and winning new customers. One poster reports a single new IDS order; an Oracle-oriented regular (DA Morgan) asks whether sales volumes are enough to get IBM executives' attention, and is accused of trolling for not being an Informix user. The rest is bickering about who belongs in the group, with name-calling and no technical content or resolution recorded.

Not to dismiss this ... it is what will keep Informix from sinking. What we want to see is an indication that there are enough new licenses being sold so that IBM C-level management takes note. Oracle isn't going away any time soon, nor is DB2, nor Informix. Well maybe IBM database products are the only thing keeping Oracle pricing down. Get back on your pathetic, tecnically inferior, marketing superior Oracle bandwagon and go home. You have nothing of worth to add to this forum! >-- >Daniel A. Barry dude, what's with that. Daniel is as welcome here as you. And you should be thanking him for contributing instead of trying to run him off. Who knows who he knows, maybe he can provide influence for change. It's a small world, let's encourage participation in the discussion, not running people out of here. While I don't always agree with what he says, and he doesn't always agree with me, he **has** said a lot of great things regarding Informix--and coming from an Oracle guy this is really good stuff. Even Mark T. has been supportive, you should really be more tolerant. Shame on you. And Daniel is always polite, something few of us including me find very hard to be. Most organizations have mixed environments with databases from IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle. 2. Not everyone considers the products of a for-profit corporation a matter of nationalism or religion. 3. Not everyone that uses one product wishes the other to crash and burn in flames. 4. Not everyone that primarily uses one product doesn't also simultaneously use other products on other projects. 5. Some of us that work with Oracle world work with multiple products and many of us consider Informix an old friend and don't want to see it in the boneyard. -- Daniel A.
