Can one instance of Informix (on one machine) update another Informix on a separate system across the network? Can it be a constant stream, or is it a log reply type of deal? I am not a DBA, but a UNIX admin who is doing some high level planning. cjw Christopher J. The only requirement is that the current database and the remote database have compatible logging modes. Updates can be discrete (ie only involving the remote table) or full two phase commit transactions involving the modification of data on multiple databases in multiple servers on multiple machines accross the network. The Informix engines handle all the nasty details of remote and multi-server updates. Art S. Kagel

Are you using Informix 7, by any chance? Otherwise, I know this is possible through db_to_asc command. It's my understanding that Informix 7 has issues with clients using this command (and other one's such as db_access, db_import, ...) -- Jill Katrina Snider Visteon/Ford Motor Company 17000 Rotunda Dr., C275 Dearborn, MI 48121-6010 ph: 313-845-8955 fax: 313-322-9754
Sounds like you should look into either Data Replication or Enterprise Replication. If your manuals don't speak of this, check out the manuals on the subject at: http://www.informix.com/answers/ Take care.
