Crossed Connections
Posted in 1999
I have recently upgraded my client/server applications from 16-bit to 32-bit NT. They are powerbuilder applications and an Image Display C DLLs. The pb and c pgms both connect to an Informix server using 7.23 Informix Esql-C (the powerbuilder using native drivers). The problem occurs when the Powerbuilder application calls the initialization routine of the C dll. As part of its job, it establishes a connection to the the Informix Database (7.23 on and Sun platform running 2.6.1). When the routine returns to the powerbuilder program, the next sql that is processed through Powerbuilder using the C dll's database connection instead of its own. My C dll using GetConnect and SetConnect routines to connect to the db, and powerbuilder just uses "connect using sqlca". I tried changing the C to use SQL "connect" but it didn't make any difference. I called Informix support and they said that this is a new feature in Informix as of Release 7, that allows mutliple programs to use the same pipeline to a database. I was told to use an explicit connection with powerbuilder but Im not sure how. The only thing I tried was creating my own transaction object instead of using sqlca, but that did not work either. Thanks, Joe
