Michael Chens' posting really wasn't that bad to me, but my perspective is of course as different as yours and Joes'. I still get quite a chuckle out of Joes' frustration posting, to others however, his language could be quite offensive. The term "RTFM" is actually quite hostile, and really shouldn't be used. If people come here for answers, and the question is not lazy, then if we can, we help. "RTFM" the person off-line. I also know what it's like to provide help, and not get so much as a simple thank-you. Such as in this case! :-) There's no excuse for bad manners or bad language for either person, however the technical problem this is related to is actually no laughing matter. The frustration that Michael was having with the Informix networking and inadequate documentation that comes with it is a MAJOR problem. I can't think of a single person I know who uses Informix networking who hasn't had grief with it. To suggest having to buy third-party ODBC all the time is allowing Informix to never take ownership of the problem. They need to get real men and women on the problem, fix it, and get on with life. Make all the products that come with Informix for Win95/WinNT speak ODBC, period, and provide the ODBC driver as part of the software release. And call it what it is. Oracle and Microsoft did this eons ago. I eagerly await the shift to a total reliance on ODBC/JDBC with Informix C/S products and the elimination of CLI/I-net/I-Connect/BailingWire/Whatever-you-call-it. Provide an ODBC driver for your software Informix, and act like you're the leader, using standard components with your products. Stop punishing your customers, stop adding confusion to an already dizzying array of client/server problems. Then the postings here will focus on other more important issues, such as the release of Informix ODS 7.x and related products on Linux. :-) -- Tim Schaefer \\\\|// tschaefe@mindspring.com (6 6) ------------------------oOOo---( )---o00o--------- http://www.inxutil.com
