You should use smit to modify these parameters. The "/etc/system" file is special for solaris. Shared Memory Parameters [805] Hi Everyone, Which file needs to be changed on AIX 5.1(9.3 UC3) for memory parameters, is it "/etc/system" but it does not exist on unix box. SHMTOTAL is set to 0 in ONCONFIG, but the total memeory does not exceed 2GB although we have 4GB of ram, could not find any info. Any idea ? Thanks in advance, Sushil... _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
The UC portion of the release level means this is a 32 bit build. A 64 bit version is identified as an FC release level. We are running on Solaris 2.6 which is a 32 bit OS. As I understand it, 3.75 GB is the threshold limit on the total amount of memory a 32 bit engine can manage. We have our SHMTOTAL set to 3700000 and that has worked for us. All our production instances run with nearly 3 GB of memory allocated to them at startup. Shared Memory Parameters [832] [833] hi, sushil About usage of memory, you should check if UC3 is 64 bit version, if it's 32bit version , it may cause some problem that server can't utlize memory more than 2.3G. chen -----Original Message----- From: forum.subscriber@iiug.org [mailto:forum.subscriber@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Li Jingjing....
